OUR TOP PICKBest cordless clipper + trimmer set
- A cordless clipper and a detail trimmer in one set
- 5+ hours per charge on standard speed, both tools
- Brushless clipper motor: 6,000 RPM standard, 6,500 RPM turbo
- 6 clipper guards, 1.5 to 13 mm

The best cordless hair clipper is the one whose battery outlasts your haircut with room to spare and whose kit covers the whole job. Our top pick is the NOVAH Pro Clipper + Trimmer. We make it, so read its entry with that in mind. It is our pick because it is the only set here with a separate trimmer in the box, and both tools run 5+ hours on standard speed per charge.
If you want a single clipper for fades, the Wahl Magic Clip is The Strategist's best overall, with a 100 minutes runtime and a cord for when the battery runs down. For long runtime at a low list price, the Andis enVISION lists up to 3 hours at $79.99, and the Wahl Cordless Color Pro is Forbes Vetted's value pick at $78.99.
Below: what to check on any cordless clipper, all seven picks with who each one suits and who should skip it, one table comparing every spec, and a second showing where the big guides agree.

OUR TOP PICK
Best cordless clipper + trimmer set: NOVAH Pro Clipper + Trimmer
A brushless cordless clipper and a detail trimmer, each running 5+ hours per charge on standard speed.
Best for
- Cutting your own hair: the clipper takes the length, the trimmer cleans the neckline and around the ears
- Several haircuts between charges on both tools
Skip it if
- You only ever buzz to one length and never touch the edges; a single clipper is enough
- You want a machine sold as cord/cordless, so a flat battery never stops the cut
We make this set, so weigh that as you read. It is our top pick for cordless for one reason the others here do not share: both tools in the box are cordless, and both run 5+ hours on standard speed per charge. The clipper does the bulk of the cut and the trimmer does the edges.
The clipper runs a brushless motor at 6,000 RPM, with a turbo setting at 6,500 RPM, inside an all-metal housing, with a taper lever for blending between guard lengths. A brushless motor wastes less of the battery on friction and heat, which is where a cordless machine's runtime goes. Turbo uses more battery than standard speed, so heavy turbo use will shorten a charge.
Check today's price for both tools on Amazon. The honest tradeoff: if you never do edges, you are paying for a trimmer you will not use, and a single clipper below is enough.
Check price on AmazonLongest bar = longest published runtime. Makers' own figures, not our tests; corded models and runtimes we could not confirm are left out. NOVAH's is our own figure for standard speed.
#2
Best for fades, with a cord as backup: Wahl Professional 5 Star Cord/Cordless Magic Clip
The Strategist's best overall and Men's Health's most versatile, and it runs plugged in.
Best for
- Fading and blending, with its stagger-tooth blade
- Never being stopped by a flat battery: Wahl sells it as cord/cordless
Skip it if
- You want a trimmer for the edges in the same box
Two of the four big guides put this one at or near the top: The Strategist named it best overall and Men's Health most versatile. Wahl lists a rotary motor, a 100 minutes runtime from a 60 minutes charge, and 8 guides in the box, at 10.2 oz.
For a cordless buyer the cord is the quiet advantage. Wahl sells it as cord/cordless, so if the battery runs down mid-fade you plug it in and keep going. The stagger-tooth blade is designed to diffuse the line between two lengths, which is what makes a fade look blended rather than stepped. It is more tool than a first-time home cutter needs, and it does not include a trimmer. Wahl lists it at $144.99.
Also named by The Strategist (New York Magazine): Best hair clipper overall; Men's Health: Most versatile hair clippers. Specs from wahlpro.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

#3
Best long runtime on a budget: Andis enVISION Cordless Clipper
Up to 3 hours per charge at 7.7 oz, with a battery display.
Best for
- Several haircuts between charges, with a runtime of up to 3 hours
- Cutting your own hair, where a lighter clipper is easier to hold overhead
- Seeing when it needs charging, from the LED battery display
Skip it if
- You want a trimmer for the edges in the same box
- You want a machine the big guides have already named as a pick
Andis lists the enVISION with a rotary motor at 7,000 strokes per minute, a runtime of up to 3 hours, a titanium-ceramic blade that adjusts from 1 to 1.9 mm, and 12 attachment combs from 1/16 in to 5/8 in. It weighs 7.7 oz, Andis backs it with a 5 year warranty, and Andis lists it at $79.99.
For a cordless buyer, the LED display is the practical feature: it shows battery level, so you know before you start whether there is enough charge for the cut. The low weight matters when your arm is raised behind your own head for twenty minutes. None of the four big guides named it as a pick, so it is here on its published specs.

Best budget cordless for first-timers: Wahl Cordless Color Pro Lithium-Ion Hair Clipper
Forbes Vetted's value pick: Wahl includes 12 color-coded guards and a quick charge.
Best for
- First home haircuts: matching a guard color to a length removes the guesswork
- Rescuing a cut from a flat battery with the quick charge
- A cordless clipper with a taper lever at a low list price
Skip it if
- You want a trimmer for the edges in the same box
- You want a barber-style clipper rather than a home kit
Forbes Vetted named the Cordless Color Pro its best value hair clipper. Wahl lists it at $78.99, with up to 2 hours of runtime, self-sharpening blades, a taper lever and 12 color-coded guards from 1/16 in to 1 in.
The cordless detail worth knowing is the quick charge: Wahl says a 15-minute quick charge gives 5 minutes of use, enough to finish the last side of a cut if the battery runs low. The color coding is the other reason to buy it. Mid-cut, remembering that the back was blue and the sides were green is easier than reading a small number on a plastic guard.
Also named by Forbes Vetted: Best value hair clippers. Specs from wahlusa.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.
#5
Best full guard set: Andis reVITE Cordless Clipper
Forbes Vetted's best overall, with 12 combs, 1/16 in to 1 in, in the box.
Best for
- A complete run of combs, 1/16 in to 1 in, with no extra purchase
- Fades, with an adjustable stainless-steel fade blade
- A single cordless clipper that covers both short and longer cuts
Skip it if
- You want a trimmer for the edges in the same box
- You want the longest runtime you can get: Andis lists 2 hours
Forbes Vetted named the reVITE its best hair clipper overall. Andis lists a rotary motor at 5,500 strokes per minute, a runtime of 2 hours, an adjustable stainless-steel fade blade and a weight of 11.5 oz, and Andis includes 12 combs from 1/16 in to 1 in.
The combs are the point. Many cordless clippers ship with a handful of guards, and the reVITE ships with a full run, so you can go from a close fade to a longer top without buying anything else. Andis lists it at $149.99.
Also named by Forbes Vetted: Best hair clippers overall. Specs from andis.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

Longest listed runtime: all-in-one groomer: Philips Norelco All-in-One Trimmer Series 9000
Up to 6 hours per charge, with 21 pieces for face, head and body.
Best for
- One cordless kit for head, beard and body
- Going a long time between charges: Philips lists up to 6 hours
Skip it if
- You want a dedicated hair clipper rather than an all-in-one trimmer kit
- You want a taper lever for blending fades
Philips lists the All-in-One Series 9000 as a cordless stainless-steel trimmer with 21 pieces for face, head and body and up to 6 hours of runtime. That is the longest runtime any maker lists on this page.
It is the pick for someone who wants one cordless kit for face, head and body and rarely wants to think about charging, rather than a dedicated hair clipper. Forbes Vetted names it its best hair clipper for fades. Philips lists it at $99.96 on its own product page.
Also named by Forbes Vetted: Best hair clippers for fades (All-In-One 9000). Specs from usa.philips.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

#7
Premium pick: brushless, USB-C, cord/cordless: BaBylissPRO SilverFX+ All-Metal Lithium Clipper
Wirecutter's upgrade pick: all-metal, brushless, up to 3 hours per charge.
Best for
- Cutting several heads in one session, with up to 3 hours per charge
- Charging from the same USB-C cable as your phone, and running on the cord
- People who like an all-metal grip
Skip it if
- Budget matters: at $249.99 it has the highest list price here
- You want a full guard set: it ships with 6 combs
BaBylissPRO lists a brushless motor at 6,800 RPM, up to 3 hours of runtime, USB-C charging, cord/cordless use, a zero-gap adjustable stainless-steel taper blade and 6 combs, in an all-metal body.
For cordless use it covers every base on the checklist above: a brushless motor, a long listed runtime, a common charging cable and a cord for backup. Wirecutter picked it as their upgrade option, and Men's Health named the SilverFX line best designed. The trade-offs are price and a smaller guard set than the home kits. BaBylissPRO lists it at $249.99.
Also named by Wirecutter (The New York Times): Upgrade pick; Men's Health: Best designed hair clippers (SilverFX). Specs from babylisspro.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

What to Look For in a Hair Clipper
Runtime Per Charge
Runtime is the number that separates one cordless clipper from another more than any other spec. A clipper that lists 90 minutes or more covers a home haircut with a wide margin, and one that lists 2 to 3 hours covers a household of cuts between charges.
Treat every figure as the maker's own, not a measured result: a turbo setting, a dry blade or dense hair all draw more power. Buy for the runtime you need plus a cushion, not the runtime you need exactly.

Charge Time and Cord/Cordless Use
Two clippers with the same runtime can feel very different if one takes all evening to recharge. Check the published charge time, and check whether a short quick charge gives a few minutes of use, which is enough to finish a cut.
Some machines are sold as cord/cordless: they run on the battery and also run while plugged in. That removes the worst failure of a cordless clipper, a dead battery halfway across the back of the head. If a maker does not say its clipper runs on the cord, assume you need to charge it first.

Motor
Rotary motors are the everyday workhorse and handle thick hair well. Brushless motors are the newer design: with no carbon brushes rubbing inside, less of the battery is lost to friction and heat, which matters more on a cordless machine than a corded one. Makers quote speed in strokes per minute or RPM and do not all measure it the same way, so treat those figures as a guide within one brand rather than a race between brands.

Guards and Blade
At home, guards matter as much as the motor. Look for a run from 1/16 in to at least 1/2 in, clear labels, and a firm clip. Guard counts on this list run from 6 combs to 12, so check the table before you buy. A taper lever opens and closes the blade without changing guards, which is how a softer blend between two lengths is made.

Do You Also Need a Trimmer?
A clipper removes length. A trimmer has a narrower, finer blade for the hairline, neckline, sideburns and around the ears. If you only ever buzz to one length, skip it. If you want clean edges, you need both, and on a cordless setup that means two batteries to keep charged, so their runtimes matter equally.

How We Chose
We did not run our own lab test of these machines, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Here is what we did instead.
We read four best hair clipper guides, from Wirecutter, The Strategist, Forbes Vetted and Men's Health, and kept the cordless and cord/cordless machines they name as picks. We favored the ones people actually search for, using Google Trends, mostly in a similar price range to ours, with one premium option for comparison, and added one Andis home clipper from the maker's current range for its published runtime. Every runtime, spec and list price comes from each maker's own website on the date shown in each entry. Where we could not confirm a figure on the maker's page, the table says so rather than filling it in. Runtimes are the makers' own figures, not ours.
NOVAH's set is on the list because we make it, and it is our top pick. Its entry follows the same template as the others, including who should skip it.
What changed: First published September 2026. Runtimes, specs and list prices read on each maker's website on the dates shown in each entry.
Also Worth Knowing About
- Andis Master Cordless Clipper. Men's Health's best professional clipper and Forbes Vetted's luxury pick. Andis lists a runtime of 1 hour 30 minutes and a list price of $229.99 (checked September 28, 2026), and it ships with no guide combs, which is why it suits experienced cutters more than a first cordless purchase.
- Wahl Professional 5 Star Cord/Cordless Senior. Men's Health's best overall pick. Wahl lists it as cord/cordless with an 80 minutes runtime and 3 guides, at $184.99 (list price checked September 28, 2026).
- BaBylissPRO LithiumFX Cord/Cordless Clipper. An ergonomic barber clipper that BaBylissPRO lists with a 2 hours runtime and 8 combs, at $189.99 (list price checked September 28, 2026).
- Andis inCRED Lithium-Ion Cordless Clipper Kit. The lowest list price among the cordless machines we looked at: Andis lists it as cord/cordless with up to 2 hours of runtime and 10 guide combs, at $59.99 (list price checked September 28, 2026).
- Wahl Elite Pro. Wirecutter's top pick for home haircuts, and corded only, so it is not on a cordless list. If you would rather never charge anything, our main clipper guide covers it.
Which Cordless Clipper Should You Buy?
You cut your own hair, edges included: a clipper plus a trimmer, which is the NOVAH set, our top pick.
You fade and never want a flat battery to stop you: the Wahl Magic Clip, which runs on the cord.
You want the most runtime for the least money: the Andis enVISION.
It is your first clipper: the Wahl Cordless Color Pro, for its color-coded guards.
You want 12 metal-clip combs and a fade blade in the box: the Andis reVITE.
One tool for head, beard and body: the Philips All-in-One Series 9000.
Budget is not the issue: the BaBylissPRO SilverFX+.

Are Cordless Clippers Powerful Enough for Thick Hair?
Yes, provided the blade is sharp and oiled and the battery is charged. A cordless clipper slows down as its battery drains or as its blade dries out, and on thick or dense hair that slowdown shows up as pulling. When a cordless clipper seems weak, check those two things first.
Three habits help. Start a thick-hair cut on a full charge. Oil the blade before you start, not after it starts to drag. Use a turbo or high setting where the machine has one, and accept that it costs runtime. Brushless motors lose less energy to heat than brushed ones, which is why several of the machines on this list use one.

How Do You Look After a Cordless Clipper and Its Battery?
Brush the hair out of the blade after every cut. Put 3 drops of clipper oil on the teeth, one at each corner and one in the middle, run it for a few seconds, and wipe off the excess. Store it dry, with the blade guard on.
For the battery, follow the maker's charging instructions and use the charger or cable it came with. Lithium-ion batteries, which most current cordless clippers use, generally last longest when they are not left fully drained for weeks and not stored somewhere hot, such as a sunny windowsill or a car. A short top-up after each cut is an easy habit. A dry blade also drains a battery faster, because the motor works harder to push it through hair, so the oil is battery care too.

Check price on AmazonFrequently Asked Questions
What is the best cordless hair clipper?
It depends on the job. For cutting your own hair with clean edges, a cordless clipper and trimmer set covers both. For fades, the Wahl Magic Clip is The Strategist's best overall and Men's Health's most versatile pick. For the longest runtime at a low price, look at the Andis enVISION, and for a premium all-metal machine, the BaBylissPRO SilverFX+.
Are cordless clippers as good as corded?
For home use, yes. Current cordless clippers have enough power and runtime for a full haircut. Corded machines still suit anyone who never wants to think about charging, and cord/cordless models give you both.
How long should a cordless clipper run on one charge?
For home use, look for at least 90 minutes of published runtime, which covers a haircut with a wide margin. Makers on this list publish figures from 100 minutes to several hours. Treat any figure as the maker's own, not a measured result.
Can you use a cordless clipper while it is charging?
Only if the maker sells it as cord/cordless. The Wahl Magic Clip and the BaBylissPRO SilverFX+ are both listed that way. If the maker does not say so, assume the clipper needs charging before use, and check the manual.
