OUR TOP PICKBest clipper + trimmer set under $100
- A cordless clipper and a detail trimmer in one set
- 5+ hours per charge on standard speed, both tools
- Brushless clipper motor: 6,000 RPM standard, 6,500 RPM turbo
- 6 clipper guards, 1.5 to 13 mm
The best hair clipper under $100 depends on whether you also need a trimmer. Our top pick is the NOVAH Pro Clipper + Trimmer. We make it, so read its entry with that in mind. It is our pick because it puts two tools in one box, a brushless clipper for the cut and a trimmer for the edges, each running 5+ hours on standard speed.
If you want a single clipper and the easiest start, the Wahl Cordless Color Pro lists at $78.99 with 12 color-coded guards, and Forbes Vetted named it their value pick. The Andis enVISION lists at $79.99 with up to 3 hours of runtime at 7.7 oz. The Andis inCRED is the lowest-priced cordless kit here at $59.99, and Wirecutter's top pick, the corded Wahl Elite Pro, lists at $69.99.
Below: what $100 does and does not buy, what to check, all five picks with who each one suits and who should skip it, one table comparing every spec, and a second showing where the big guides agree.

OUR TOP PICK
Best clipper + trimmer set under $100: NOVAH Pro Clipper + Trimmer
A brushless clipper and a detail trimmer, 5+ hours per charge on standard speed.
Best for
- Cutting your own hair: the clipper takes the length, the trimmer cleans the neckline and around the ears
- Getting both tools in one purchase instead of buying a trimmer later
Skip it if
- You only ever buzz to one length and never touch the edges; a single clipper is enough
- You want the lowest possible spend on a first clipper
- You want a corded machine that never needs charging
We make this set, so weigh that as you read. It is our top pick under $100 for one reason: it is the only pick here that puts a separate detail trimmer in the box alongside the clipper. The clipper does the bulk of the cut and the trimmer does the edges.
The clipper runs a brushless motor at 6,000 RPM, with a turbo setting at 6,500 RPM, inside an all-metal housing, with a taper lever for blending between guard lengths. With no carbon brushes rubbing inside the motor, less of the battery is lost to friction and heat. Both the clipper and the trimmer run 5+ hours on standard speed per charge, so a full haircut, or several, fits comfortably in one charge. Turbo uses more battery.
Check today's price for both tools on Amazon. The honest tradeoff: if you never do edges, you are paying for a trimmer you will not use, and a single clipper below is enough.

#2
Best for first-timers: Wahl Cordless Color Pro Lithium-Ion Hair Clipper
Forbes Vetted's value pick, with 12 color-coded guards.
Best for
- First home haircuts: matching a guard color to a length removes the guesswork
- A full run of guards, 1/16 in to 1 in, in the box
- A cordless clipper with a taper lever
Skip it if
- You want a trimmer for the edges in the same box
- You want a barber-style clipper rather than a home kit
Forbes Vetted named the Cordless Color Pro its best value hair clipper. Wahl lists it at $78.99, with up to 2 hours of runtime, self-sharpening blades, a taper lever and 12 color-coded guards from 1/16 in to 1 in. A 15-minute quick charge gives 5 minutes of use, enough to finish a cut if the battery runs low.
The color coding is the reason to buy it. Mid-cut, remembering that the back was blue and the sides were green is easier than squinting at a small number on a plastic guard. It is a clipper only, so the neckline and around the ears need a separate trimmer if you want clean edges.
Also named by Forbes Vetted: Best value hair clippers. Specs from wahlusa.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.
#3
Best light cordless clipper: Andis enVISION Cordless Clipper
A 7.7 oz cordless clipper with a runtime of up to 3 hours and 12 attachment combs.
Best for
- Cutting your own hair, where a lighter clipper is easier to hold overhead
- Several haircuts between charges, with a runtime of up to 3 hours
- Knowing when to charge and oil it, from the LED display
Skip it if
- You want a trimmer for the edges in the same box
- You want a corded machine
Andis lists the enVISION with a rotary motor at 7,000 strokes per minute, a runtime of up to 3 hours, a titanium-ceramic blade that adjusts from 1 to 1.9 mm, and 12 attachment combs from 1/16 in to 5/8 in. It weighs 7.7 oz, and Andis backs it with a 5 year warranty and lists it at $79.99.
The weight is what earns it a place. Holding a clipper behind your own head, arm raised, for twenty minutes is where a few ounces start to count. The LED display shows battery level and a maintenance reminder, which helps a home cutter who might otherwise forget to oil the blade. None of the four big guides named it as a pick, so it is here on its published specs. Like most clippers here, the edges still need a trimmer.

#4
Best low-cost cordless kit: Andis inCRED Lithium-Ion Cordless Clipper Kit
An 18-piece cord/cordless home kit with 10 guide combs, listed at $59.99.
Best for
- The lowest spend on a cordless kit that still covers a full haircut
- Blending, with taper combs included as well as 10 guide combs
- Cord/cordless use, so a flat battery never ends a cut
Skip it if
- You want the longest runtime; Andis lists up to 2 hours
- You want a trimmer for the edges in the same box
Andis lists the inCRED kit at $59.99, the lowest list price on this list. It runs a rotary motor at 5,500 strokes per minute, with titanium-coated stainless-steel blades, and Andis lists up to 2 hours of runtime; it works with or without the cord. The kit includes 10 guide combs from 1/16 in to 1 in, plus a blending comb and left and right taper combs for around the ears. It weighs 8.3 oz, and Andis backs it with a 5 year warranty.
For a first clipper on a tight budget, this is a complete kit. Its listed runtime, up to 2 hours, ties the Color Pro for the shortest among the cordless picks here, which still covers a full haircut, and the cord takes over if it runs down. It is a clipper only, so clean edges need a separate trimmer. None of the four big guides named it as a pick, so it is here on its published specs and its price.
Specs from andis.com, checked Sep 28, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

#5
Best corded clipper: Wahl Elite Pro Corded High Performance Hair Clipper Kit
Wirecutter's top pick for home haircuts, listed at $69.99.
Best for
- People who never want to charge a clipper
- A well-reviewed corded home haircut kit
Skip it if
- You want to cut away from an outlet
Wirecutter chose the Elite Pro as the best clipper for most home haircuts, and Wahl lists it at $69.99. It is corded, with self-sharpening blades, and Wirecutter reports 10 guide combs in the kit.
The cord is the whole trade. It will never die halfway through a cut, and it will never follow you further than the nearest outlet. If you cut in one spot, a bathroom or a kitchen chair, that is no hardship. Wahl's own page lists fewer specs than the others here, which is why several cells in the table below read not listed.
Also named by Wirecutter (The New York Times): Top pick, the best home hair clipper. Guards from Wirecutter (page updated Mar 28, 2025); other specs from wahlusa.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

What to Look For in a Hair Clipper
What Does Under $100 Actually Buy?
Under $100 is the home-clipper price band. The machines here are listed for cutting your own hair or your family's. That is not a compromise for most readers. A home clipper cuts a few heads a month, and at that pace the things that matter are guards, runtime and ease of use, not a motor built for a full barber shift.
Professional details, such as zero-gap blades that barbers set by hand, vary by model at this price, so check each pick's listed housing and blade. What you can still get is a cordless motor, a taper lever, a full run of guards, and in a few cases a trimmer in the same box.

Motor and Blade
A rotary motor is the everyday workhorse and handles thick hair well; Andis lists one in both the enVISION and the inCRED. A brushless motor is the newer design: no carbon brushes rubbing inside it, so less energy is lost as friction and heat. Makers quote speed in strokes per minute or RPM and do not all measure it the same way, so treat those figures as a guide within one brand rather than a race between brands.
On the blade, look for a taper lever. It opens and closes the blade without swapping guards, which is how a home cut gets a softer blend between two lengths.

Guards
At home, guards matter as much as the motor. Look for a run from 1/16 in to at least 1/2 in, clear labels, and a firm clip. A guard that flexes leaves uneven patches, and a missing length means an extra purchase before the first cut. Guard counts on this list run from a trimmer-kit set to 12 combs, so check the table before you buy.

Cordless or Corded
Cordless is easier to move around a head, especially your own. Check the maker's published runtime: anything above about 60 minutes covers a full home haircut with room to spare. Corded never runs flat, which is why one corded kit is still on this list.

Do You Also Need a Trimmer?
A clipper removes length. A trimmer has a narrower, finer blade for the hairline, neckline, sideburns and around the ears. If you only ever buzz to one length, skip it. If you want clean edges, you need both, and buying them separately can take the total past the top of this budget on its own. That is the case a clipper and trimmer set is built for.

How We Chose
We did not run our own lab test of these machines, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Here is what we did instead.
We read four best hair clipper guides, from Wirecutter, The Strategist, Forbes Vetted and Men's Health, and kept the dedicated hair clippers they name whose makers list them inside this budget: the Wahl Cordless Color Pro and the Wahl Elite Pro. Forbes Vetted's Philips pick also lists under $100, but it is an all-in-one trimmer kit rather than a dedicated hair clipper. We added two home clippers from Andis's own current range that fit the budget, and our own set, and list a third Andis kit under Also Worth Knowing About. Every spec and list price comes from each maker's own website on the date shown in each entry, except where an entry names a guide as the source. Where we could not confirm a figure on the maker's page, the table says so rather than filling it in. List prices change and retailers often sell below them, so check the price on the day you buy.
NOVAH's set is on the list because we make it, and it is our top pick. Its entry follows the same template as the others, including who should skip it.
What changed: First published September 2026. Specs and list prices read on each maker's website on the dates shown in each entry.
Also Worth Knowing About
- Andis inCRED Cordless Combo. Andis's own clipper and trimmer kit, listed at $79.99 (checked September 28, 2026) with up to 2 hours of runtime and a 5 year warranty. If a clipper plus trimmer is what you want, it is worth a look. We could not confirm a motor type, weight or comb count for it on Andis's page, so we left it out of the side-by-side table rather than show a row of blanks.
- Remington Virtually Indestructible Haircut and Beard Trimmer. Wirecutter's pick as the best clipper for cutting your own or a kid's hair.
- Wahl Professional 5 Star Cord/Cordless Magic Clip. The Strategist's best overall, built for fading and blending, but Wahl lists it at $144.99 (checked September 28, 2026), above this budget. Our Magic Clip alternatives guide covers it in full.
- Andis reVITE. Forbes Vetted's best overall, with 12 metal-clip combs, listed by Andis at $149.99 (checked September 28, 2026), so it sits above this list's ceiling.
Which Budget Clipper Should You Buy?
You want the clipper and the trimmer in one box: the NOVAH set, our top pick.
It is your first clipper and you want it simple: the Wahl Cordless Color Pro, for its color-coded guards.
You cut your own hair and want something light: the Andis enVISION.
You want to spend as little as possible: the Andis inCRED kit at $59.99.
You never want to charge anything: the corded Wahl Elite Pro.

Is It Worth Spending More on Clippers?
For most home cutters, no. The machines above that line in the big guides, the Wahl Magic Clip, the Andis reVITE and the Andis Master among them, are built for fading and blending. Wahl lists the Magic Clip at $144.99 and Andis lists the Master at $229.99 (both list prices checked September 28, 2026).
That money buys professional blades and build, which matter if you fade for others or cut several heads a week. If you cut your own hair or your family's a couple of times a month, a well-chosen machine under $100 does the job, and the money you save covers a trimmer if you need one. We explain what the extra spend buys in more detail in our guide to what a professional clipper's price actually pays for.
How Do You Make a Cheaper Clipper Last?
Brush the hair out of the blade after every cut. Put 3 drops of clipper oil on the teeth, one at each corner and one in the middle, run it for a few seconds, and wipe off the excess. Store it dry, with the blade guard on.
A dry blade runs hot and pulls hair, and on a budget clipper it is usually the first thing to go. Before blaming the motor for a clipper that drags, clean and oil the blade, whichever brand you buy. For a cordless machine, do not leave the battery fully drained for weeks between cuts; a top-up after each use keeps it healthy.

What are the best hair clippers under $100?
It depends on the job. For a clipper and trimmer in one box, our pick is the NOVAH set (we make it). For a first clipper, the Wahl Cordless Color Pro. For a light cordless clipper, the Andis enVISION. For the lowest price, the Andis inCRED kit. For a corded kit, the Wahl Elite Pro, Wirecutter's top pick.
Are cheap hair clippers any good?
Yes, for home use. A home clipper in this price band has enough motor for a full haircut, a usable run of guards and, if cordless, enough runtime for a cut or two per charge. Housing and blade adjustment vary by model, so compare the listed features rather than assuming price decides them.
Is Wahl or Andis better for a budget clipper?
Neither wins outright. On this list, Wahl's picks are the color-coded first-timer kit and the corded Wirecutter pick, and Andis's picks are the light long-runtime clipper and the lowest-priced cordless kit. Choose by the job, not the badge.
Do I need a trimmer as well as clippers?
For clean edges, yes. A clipper blade is too wide for the hairline, neckline and around the ears. A trimmer has a narrower, finer blade for that detail. If you only buzz to one length and never touch the edges, a clipper alone is enough.
Cordless or corded clippers under $100?
Cordless for most people, because it is easier to move around a head, especially your own. Every cordless pick here publishes enough runtime for a full haircut. Choose corded if you never want to think about charging.
How long do budget hair clippers last?
It depends on care more than price: keep the blade clean and oiled, and replace it when it starts to pull. Check the maker's warranty: Andis lists 5 years on both of its picks here.
