OUR TOP PICKBest clipper + trimmer set
- A cordless clipper and a detail trimmer in one set
- 5+ hours per charge on standard speed, both tools
- Brushless clipper motor: 6,000 RPM standard, 6,500 RPM turbo
- 6 clipper guards, 1.5 to 13 mm

A clipper and trimmer set is one box with two tools: a clipper with a wide blade that removes length, and a trimmer with a narrow blade that draws the hairline, the neckline and the edges around the ears. Our top pick is the NOVAH Pro Clipper + Trimmer. We make it, so read its entry with that in mind. It is our pick because it pairs a brushless, all-metal clipper with a trimmer, both running 5+ hours on standard speed.
On a tighter budget, the Wahl Lithium Pro kit lists at $69.99 and the Andis inCRED Cordless Combo at $79.99 with a 5 year Andis warranty. For a barber-grade pair, the Wahl Cordless Barber Combo puts the Magic Clip and the Detailer Li in one box at $289.99. If you want one kit for head, beard and body, the Philips Norelco All-in-One Series 9000 covers it.
Below: when a set makes sense and when separates do, what to check, all six picks with who each suits and who should skip it, one table comparing every spec, and a second showing where the big guides agree.

OUR TOP PICK
Best clipper + trimmer set: NOVAH Pro Clipper + Trimmer
A brushless, all-metal clipper plus a detail trimmer, 5+ hours per charge on standard speed.
Best for
- Cutting your own hair from start to finish: the clipper takes the length, the trimmer does the neckline, sideburns and around the ears
- Anyone who wants a rechargeable trimmer, not a battery detailer, in the same box as the clipper
- Getting both tools in one purchase
Skip it if
- You only ever buzz to one length and never touch the edges; a single clipper is enough
- You want a corded clipper that never needs charging
- You want the widest possible guard range for longer cuts; count the guards on the listing first
We make this set, so weigh that as you read. It is our top pick because it is built as a pair: the clipper does the bulk of the cut and the trimmer does the detail.
The clipper runs a brushless motor at 6,000 RPM, with a turbo setting at 6,500 RPM, inside an all-metal housing, with a taper lever for blending between guard lengths. Both the clipper and the trimmer run 5+ hours on standard speed per charge, so a full haircut, or several, fits in one charge. Turbo uses more battery.
Check today's price for both tools on Amazon. For comparison, Wahl lists the Magic Clip alone at $144.99 and its own Magic Clip and Detailer Li combo at $289.99.
If you want a barber-shop combo built around a stagger-tooth fading blade, or a face, head and body groomer, the picks below cover them.
On Amazon, the set holds a 4.5 star average across more than 12,000 reviews.
Check price on AmazonLongest bar = longest published runtime. Makers' own figures, not our tests; corded models and runtimes we could not confirm are left out. NOVAH's is our own figure for standard speed.
#2
Best budget cordless combo: Andis inCRED Cordless Combo
A rechargeable clipper and trimmer pair at $79.99, with a 5 year Andis warranty.
Best for
- A low-cost set where both tools are cordless and rechargeable
- Buyers who value a long warranty: Andis lists 5 years
Skip it if
- You want a published motor speed or weight; we could not find either on Andis's page for this combo
- You want a large, counted guard set; Andis's page, as we read it, says attachment combs are included without a count
Andis lists the inCRED Cordless Combo at $79.99. The box holds an inCRED clipper and a matching trimmer, both lithium-ion, with up to 2 hours of runtime, an adjustable stainless-steel blade and attachment combs.
The warranty is the standout. Andis backs the combo for 5 years, the longest warranty listed on this page, alongside Wahl's Lithium Pro kit. What we could not confirm on Andis's page for this combo is as useful to know: no motor speed, no weight and no guard count, which is why several cells in the table below read not listed.
For a first set at home, where the job is a regular tidy-up and a clean neckline, it covers the basics at a low list price.

#3
Lowest list price: Wahl Lithium Pro Cordless Clipper and Battery Trimmer Kit
A cordless clipper with a taper lever, plus a battery trimmer, at $69.99.
Best for
- The lowest list price on this list for a clipper and trimmer in one kit
- Occasional neckline touch-ups between haircuts
- Home cutters who want left and right taper combs for around the ears
Skip it if
- You want a matched pair: Wahl lists a lithium-ion clipper and a battery-powered trimmer
Wahl lists the Lithium Pro kit at $69.99. The clipper is cordless and lithium-ion, with a 2 hour runtime, a 15 minute quick charge for a short touch-up, self-sharpening blades and a taper lever for blending. The kit adds guide combs and left and right taper ear combs. Wahl backs it with a 5 year warranty.
The trade is the trimmer: Wahl lists it as battery-powered, so check how it is powered before you buy. For someone who mostly needs the clipper and wants the edges kept neat, that is a sensible way to keep the cost down.

#4
Premium pick: barber-grade combo: Wahl Professional 5 Star Cordless Barber Combo
The 5 Star Cordless Magic Clip and the Cordless Detailer Li in one box.
Best for
- Experienced cutters who want Wahl's professional fading clipper and detailer as a matched pair
- Fades and blends, with the Stagger-Tooth Crunch blade
- Sharp lineups, with a T-Wide trimmer blade that adjusts to zero-gap
Skip it if
- Budget matters: at $289.99 it has the highest list price here
- You are a first-timer who needs a full guard set; Wahl includes 3 clipper guides and 3 trimming guides, 1/16 in to 3/16 in
Wahl pairs two of its professional tools here: the 5 Star Cordless Magic Clip, which The Strategist named its best overall clipper and Men's Health its most versatile, and the Cordless Detailer Li trimmer. Wahl lists the combo at $289.99, with up to 100 minutes of cordless runtime and titanium and DLC-coated blades on both tools.
The clipper carries Wahl's Stagger-Tooth Crunch blade, designed to blur the line between two lengths so a fade looks blended rather than stepped. The trimmer's T-Wide blade adjusts to zero-gap for close detail work.
It is a barber's kit, and the guard set shows it: 3 clipper guides and 3 trimming guides, 1/16 in to 3/16 in. That suits short fades and anyone who already owns longer guards, and it leaves a beginner buying more before a longer cut.

Best all-in-one groomer: Philips Norelco All-in-One Trimmer Series 9000
Forbes Vetted's pick for fades: 21 pieces for face, head and body.
Best for
- One kit for head, beard and body instead of a clipper and trimmer pair
- A long listed runtime: Philips lists up to 6 hours
Skip it if
- You want a dedicated hair clipper rather than an all-in-one trimmer kit
- You want a taper lever for blending fades
The Philips Norelco All-in-One Series 9000 takes a different route to the same goal. Rather than two tools, it is one cordless stainless-steel trimmer kit, which Philips lists as 21 pieces for face, head and body, with up to 6 hours of runtime and a 2 year warranty.
It suits someone who wants one kit for face, head and body, from a short haircut to a beard. Forbes Vetted names it its best hair clipper for fades. Philips lists it at $99.96 on its own product page.
Also named by Forbes Vetted: Best hair clippers for fades (All-In-One 9000). Specs from usa.philips.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

#6
Best if you already own a trimmer: Wahl Professional 5 Star Cord/Cordless Magic Clip
The clipper two of the big guides put at or near the top, bought on its own.
Best for
- Buying separates: you already own a trimmer you like and want a stronger fading clipper
- Fading and blending, with its stagger-tooth blade
Skip it if
- You need a trimmer too; Wahl sells it with the Detailer Li as the combo above
This is the separates option. If you already own a trimmer that does your edges well, a set would hand you a second trimmer you do not need. The Magic Clip is the clipper The Strategist named best overall and Men's Health most versatile.
Wahl lists a rotary motor, a 100 minute runtime from a 60 minute charge, 8 guides in the box and a weight of 10.2 oz, at $144.99. The stagger-tooth blade is built for fading, which also makes it more tool than a first home cut needs.
Also named by The Strategist (New York Magazine): Best hair clipper overall; Men's Health: Most versatile hair clippers. Specs from wahlpro.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

What to Look For in a Hair Clipper
Is the Trimmer a Real Second Tool?
This is the first thing to check, because sets vary more here than anywhere else. In some kits the trimmer is a full, rechargeable tool with its own motor and a blade built for lineups. In others it is a small battery-powered detailer meant for a neckline touch-up. Both are useful, but they are not the same job.
A good rule: if you plan to draw a hairline or a beard line, you want a rechargeable trimmer with a fine, flat blade. If you only tidy the back of the neck between haircuts, a battery trimmer is enough.

Runtime for Both Tools, Not Just the Clipper
Makers usually lead with the clipper's runtime. The trimmer's number matters too, because the trimmer is the tool you reach for at the end of the cut, when the battery has already had the most use. Look for a published figure for each tool, or a single figure the maker states covers both.
Cuts per charge depend on how long each tool runs during your haircut, so compare the published figures with the length of your own cuts.

Guards and the Length Range They Cover
The guards decide which haircuts a set can actually do. Home kits tend to ship with 8 to 12 guards running from about 1/16 in (1.5 mm) to 1 in (25 mm), which covers everything from a close fade to a longer scissor-free cut. Professional combos often ship with only the shortest few, on the assumption that a barber owns the rest.
If you are new to clippers, count the guards in the box before you count the motor speed.

Motor and Blade on the Clipper
The clipper still does most of the work, so judge it as you would a clipper bought alone. A taper lever lets you open and close the blade to blend between guard lengths without stopping. Rotary and brushless motors hold their speed in thick hair; brushless designs lose less energy to friction and heat, so more of the battery goes into cutting.
Speed figures are only comparable within one maker's range, because makers measure them differently.

Set or Separates?
A set arrives as a matched pair in one purchase. Separates let you choose each tool on its own merits, and they make sense when you already own one of the two. If your clipper is fine and only your edges suffer, buy a trimmer. If you are starting from nothing, a set is the simpler route.

How We Chose
We did not run our own lab test of these machines, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Here is what we did instead.
We read four best hair clipper guides, from Wirecutter, The Strategist, Forbes Vetted and Men's Health. None of them ranks clipper and trimmer sets as a category, so we listed the sets sold by the makers those guides favor, Wahl and Andis, and kept the ones whose specs and list price are published on the maker's own website. We added the Philips all-in-one kit Forbes Vetted picked, and one clipper sold alone for readers who already own a trimmer. Every spec and list price comes from each maker's own website on the date shown in each entry. Where we could not confirm a figure on the maker's page, the table says so rather than filling it in.
NOVAH's set is on the list because we make it, and it is our top pick. Its entry follows the same template as the others, including who should skip it.
What changed: First published September 2026. Specs and list prices read on each maker's website on the dates shown in each entry.
Also Worth Knowing About
- Andis Master Cordless Clipper. Men's Health's best professional clipper, sold on its own and without guide combs, so it suits experienced cutters buying separates.
- Bevel Pro All-in-One Clipper and Trimmer. Forbes Vetted's pick for design and Men's Health's for fades.
- Remington Virtually Indestructible Haircut and Beard Trimmer. Wirecutter's pick as the best clipper for cutting your own or a kid's hair.
Which Set Should You Buy?
Cutting your own hair, edges included, with a rechargeable trimmer: the NOVAH set, our top pick.
Lowest spend: the Wahl Lithium Pro kit if a battery trimmer is enough, the Andis inCRED Cordless Combo if you want both tools rechargeable.
Fades and lineups, with experience and a bigger budget: the Wahl Cordless Barber Combo.
Head, beard and body in one kit: the Philips All-in-One Series 9000.
You already own a trimmer you like: skip the set and buy a clipper on its own, such as the Wahl Magic Clip.

When Do Separates Make More Sense Than a Set?
A set is the right answer for most people starting from nothing, but not for everyone. Separates win in three situations.
You already own one of the two tools. A working trimmer does not wear out because you replaced your clipper. Buy the tool you are missing.
You want different levels of tool. Some cutters want a professional fading clipper and are happy with a modest trimmer, or the other way round. A set fixes both at the same level.
You cut for other people. Barbers often keep two or three clippers set to different blade positions, plus a trimmer. At that point a matched pair is less important than the right individual tools.
For everyone else, the set is simpler: one purchase, and a trimmer that was chosen to finish what the clipper started.
How Do You Look After Two Tools Instead of One?
The routine is the same for both tools, and it takes about two minutes after each cut. Brush the hair out of each blade. Put 3 drops of clipper oil on each blade, one at each corner and one in the middle, run the tool for a few seconds, and wipe off the excess. Store both dry, with the blade guards on.
Trimmer blades are finer than clipper blades, so they suffer more from skipped oiling. A dry trimmer blade runs hot against the skin and pulls at short hair along the neckline. Charge both tools together so neither runs flat halfway through a cut.

NOVAH Pro Clipper + Trimmer

A cordless clipper for the bulk of the cut and a trimmer for lineups, edging and detail work, sold together as one set.
Check price on AmazonFrequently Asked Questions
Do I need both a clipper and a trimmer?
Only if you want clean edges. A clipper removes length and can do a whole buzz cut alone. A trimmer has a narrower, finer blade for the hairline, the neckline, sideburns and around the ears. If you cut your own hair and want it to look finished, you need both.
Is a clipper and trimmer set cheaper than buying separately?
It can be. On this list, the sets run from $69.99 to $289.99 at list price for two tools, while several single clippers from the big guides list above $100 on their own (list prices checked September 28, 2026). Compare the exact tools before assuming a saving; it is smaller if you already own one of the two, which is when separates make more sense.
Can you use a trimmer instead of a clipper for a haircut?
For very short cuts, yes, but slowly. A trimmer's blade is narrow, so taking length off a whole head takes many more passes, and most trimmers ship with fewer, shorter guards. Use the clipper for length and the trimmer for detail.
What should come in a clipper and trimmer set?
At minimum: the clipper, the trimmer, a range of guards, a charger, blade oil and a cleaning brush. Check whether the trimmer is rechargeable or runs on disposable batteries, and how many guards are included, before comparing prices.
