OUR TOP PICKBest clipper + trimmer set for the station
- A cordless clipper and a detail trimmer in one set
- 5+ hours per charge on standard speed, both tools
- Brushless clipper motor: 6,000 RPM standard, 6,500 RPM turbo
- 6 clipper guards, 1.5 to 13 mm

For a barber who wants a clipper and a detail trimmer at one station, our top pick is the NOVAH Pro Clipper + Trimmer. We make it, so read its entry with that in mind.
If you want a single clipper from the guides' picks, the Wahl Magic Clip is the barber-shop fading staple, the Andis Master is the one Men's Health calls the best professional clipper, and the BaBylissPRO SilverFX+ is the all-metal brushless option with up to 3 hours of listed runtime. The Andis reVITE suits a barber who still wants a full comb set, and the Andis enVISION is a light, low-cost second clipper for the station.
Below: all six picks with who each suits and who should skip it, one table comparing every spec, where the big guides agree, and what to look for in a clipper that works eight hours a day.

OUR TOP PICK
Best clipper + trimmer set for the station: NOVAH Pro Clipper + Trimmer
A brushless clipper and a detail trimmer, 5+ hours per charge on standard speed.
Best for
- Barbers setting up a first station, or a second one, who want the clipper and the trimmer in one purchase
- Mobile and house-call barbers who want cordless tools with a long charge
- Students and new barbers who want a brushless, all-metal clipper without paying premium prices
Skip it if
- Your shop already runs on one brand's blades and parts, and you want every machine to take the same spares
- You want a corded machine that never needs charging
We make this set, so weigh that as you read. It is on a professional list for one reason the others here do not share: it is two tools in one box, a clipper for the bulk of the cut and a trimmer for lineups, necklines and around the ears.
The clipper runs a brushless motor at 6,000 RPM, with a turbo setting at 6,500 RPM, inside an all-metal housing, with a taper lever for blending between lengths. Brushless matters behind the chair because there are no brushes to wear and less friction heat over a long day. Both tools run 5+ hours on standard speed per charge; turbo uses more battery.
The honest limitation for a working barber: if your shop runs on one brand's blades and parts, you may prefer to stay inside that system.
Check today's price for both tools on Amazon. For comparison, Wahl lists the Magic Clip alone at $144.99.

#2
Best for fading and blending: Wahl Professional 5 Star Cord/Cordless Magic Clip
The shop staple for fades, named best overall by The Strategist.
Best for
- Barbers whose book is mostly fades and tapers
- Cord/cordless use, so a flat battery never stops a cut
Skip it if
- You want a trimmer for lineups in the same box
- You want the longest runtime per charge on this list
It is a barber-shop staple built for fading and blending. The Strategist named it best overall and Men's Health called it the most versatile. Wahl lists a rotary motor, 100 minutes of runtime from a charge of 60 minutes, 8 guides in the box, and a weight of 10.2 oz.
The point of it is the Stagger-Tooth blade. The staggered teeth are designed to diffuse the line between two lengths, which is what makes a fade look blended rather than stepped. It runs cord/cordless, so you can plug in when the battery gets low and keep cutting.
Wahl lists it at $144.99.
Also named by The Strategist (New York Magazine): Best hair clipper overall; Men's Health: Most versatile hair clippers. Specs from wahlpro.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

#3
Best for close work: Andis Master Cordless Clipper
Men's Health's best professional clipper, with an aluminum body and no guards in the box.
Best for
- Close fades, with the adjustable carbon-steel blade from 000 to 1
- Experienced barbers who blend by feel and already own guards
- Anyone who likes a heavy, planted clipper
Skip it if
- You need guards in the box: Andis includes none
- You want a light clipper for a long shift: Andis lists 13.2 oz, the heaviest published weight here
Men's Health names the Master the best professional hair clipper, and Forbes Vetted picked it as its luxury option. Andis lists a rotary motor at 6,500 strokes per minute, a 1 hour 30 minutes runtime, an adjustable carbon-steel blade from 000 to 1, and an aluminum body at 13.2 oz. Andis backs it with a 2 year warranty.
This is a clipper for someone who already knows what they are doing. The blade adjusts from 000 to 1, which suits the bottom of a fade, and Andis lists an aluminum body at 13.2 oz. That weight is also its trade over a long day. There are no guide combs in the box.
Andis lists it at $229.99.
Also named by Forbes Vetted: Best luxury hair clippers; Men's Health: Best professional hair clippers. Specs from andis.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

#4
Best premium brushless clipper: BaBylissPRO SilverFX+ All-Metal Lithium Clipper
Wirecutter's upgrade pick: all-metal, brushless, up to 3 hours per charge.
Best for
- Barbers who want a brushless motor from a brand every supply store stocks
- Long days: up to 3 hours per charge, with USB-C charging
- Zero-gapping, with the adjustable stainless-steel taper blade
Skip it if
- Budget matters: at $249.99 it has the highest list price here
- You want a full guard set: it ships with 6 combs
BaBylissPRO lists a brushless motor at 6,800 RPM, up to 3 hours of runtime, USB-C charging, a zero-gap adjustable stainless-steel taper blade and 6 combs, in an all-metal body. BaBylissPRO backs it with a 2 year warranty. Wirecutter chose it as its upgrade pick, and Men's Health named the SilverFX line its best designed clipper.
For a barber, the runtime is the headline. Up to 3 hours covers a long stretch of back-to-back cuts, and it runs cord/cordless for the rest. The trade-offs are the price and a smaller comb set, which matters less behind the chair than at home.
BaBylissPRO lists it at $249.99.
Also named by Wirecutter (The New York Times): Upgrade pick; Men's Health: Best designed hair clippers (SilverFX). Specs from babylisspro.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

#5
Best for barbers who still use guards: Andis reVITE Cordless Clipper
Forbes Vetted's best overall, with 12 metal-clip combs in the box.
Best for
- Newer barbers who still lean on guards and want a full set included
- Guard work at speed: 12 combs from 1/16 in to 1 in
- A professional-brand clipper under $150 list
Skip it if
- You blend by feel and do not need a comb set
- You want cord/cordless use: it is cordless only
Forbes Vetted named the reVITE its best hair clipper overall. Andis lists a rotary motor at 5,500 strokes per minute, 2 hours of runtime, an adjustable stainless-steel fade blade, and 12 combs from 1/16 in to 1 in, at 11.5 oz. Andis backs it with a 2 year warranty.
The combs are what set it apart on a professional list. Some shop clippers ship with few guards or none; this one ships with 12 combs, which suits a barber still building a kit or anyone who runs a lot of guard cuts in a day. It sits between the light home machines and the heavy metal pros on weight.
Andis lists it at $149.99.
Also named by Forbes Vetted: Best hair clippers overall. Specs from andis.com, checked Sep 25, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

#6
Best budget backup clipper: Andis enVISION Cordless Clipper
A light cordless clipper with a long listed runtime and a battery display.
Best for
- A second clipper at the station, charged and ready when the first runs flat
- Light weight for long shifts: 7.7 oz
- Seeing battery status at a glance on the LED display
Skip it if
- You want your main shop clipper: it is built as a home clipper
- You zero-gap: the blade adjusts from 1 to 1.9 mm rather than to zero
Andis lists the enVISION with a rotary motor at 7,000 strokes per minute, up to 3 hours of runtime, a titanium-ceramic blade that adjusts from 1 to 1.9 mm, 12 attachment combs from 1/16 in to 5/8 in, and an LED digital display for battery status and maintenance reminders, at 7.7 oz. Andis backs it with a warranty of 5 years.
It is not a flagship barber clipper and does not claim to be. It earns its place here as the machine you keep charged in the drawer: light, long-running and low cost, so a dead battery never costs you a client.
Andis lists it at $79.99.
Specs from andis.com, checked Sep 27, 2026. List price re-checked Oct 5, 2026.

What to Look For in a Hair Clipper
Motor Under a Full Day of Load
A barber's clipper does not cut one head, it cuts many in a day, often back to back. What matters is whether the motor holds its speed when the blade meets dense hair at the crown, and how warm the body gets by mid-afternoon. Rotary motors are the traditional shop choice for torque. Brushless motors have no carbon brushes rubbing on the commutator, so there is less friction, less heat and nothing to wear out on that side of the motor. Speed figures help within one brand, but makers measure strokes and RPM differently, so read them as a guide rather than a contest.

Blade, Taper Control and Zero-Gapping
For fades, the blade is the tool and the motor just drives it. Look for an adjustable blade with a taper lever, so you can open and close between lengths mid-stroke without changing guards. Some professional machines can be zero-gapped, setting the cutting blade almost flush with the stationary blade for the closest possible cut. That is a skill, and a blade set too close will nick skin, so check that replacement blades are easy to buy for the model you choose.

Runtime and Cord or Cordless
Cordless suits the chair because a cord drags across the client's shoulder and limits your angles. The question is whether one charge covers your busiest stretch. Several machines here run cord/cordless, so a flat battery never ends a cut. If yours is cordless only, keep a second clipper charged at the station.

Weight and Grip
Weight you do not notice on one haircut you will notice on the twelfth. The machines on this list run from about 7.7 oz to 13.2 oz where the maker lists a figure. Heavier metal bodies feel planted and steady on long passes; lighter ones are easier on the wrist over a long shift. Hold one in a supply store before you buy if you can.

Guards, and Why Pros Need Fewer
Home kits ship with a dozen guards. Some professional clippers ship with three or none, because a barber blends with the lever, the blade and clipper-over-comb rather than a guard for every length. If you are still building your kit, count what is in the box and budget for the rest.

Do You Need a Trimmer at the Station Too?
Yes, if you do lineups, necklines or beard work. A clipper blade is too wide to set a hairline. You can buy the clipper and the trimmer separately or as a set.

How We Chose
We did not run our own lab test of these machines, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Here is what we did instead.
We read four clipper guides, from Wirecutter, The Strategist, Forbes Vetted and Men's Health, and listed the professional machines they name. We favored the ones people actually search for, using Google Trends, kept most picks near our own price, and added two premium machines for comparison. Every spec and list price comes from each maker's own website on the date shown in each entry. Where we could not confirm a figure on the maker's page, the table says so rather than filling it in.
NOVAH's set is on the list because we make it, and it is our top pick for a barber who wants a clipper and trimmer together. Its entry follows the same template as the others, including who should skip it.
What changed: First published September 2026. Other brands' specs were read between September 25 and 27, 2026 and their list prices on September 28, 2026, as shown in each entry.
Also Worth Knowing About
- Wahl Professional 5 Star Series Senior. Men's Health's best overall pick. Wahl lists the cord/cordless version at $184.99 (checked September 28, 2026) with 80 minutes of runtime and 3 guides.
- BaBylissPRO LithiumFX. An ergonomic cord/cordless barber clipper. BaBylissPRO lists a 6,800 RPM motor, 2 hours of runtime and 8 combs, at $189.99 (checked September 28, 2026).
- Wahl Professional 5 Star Cordless Barber Combo. The Magic Clip paired with the Cordless Detailer Li trimmer, for barbers who want both tools from Wahl. Wahl lists it at $289.99 (checked September 28, 2026).
Which One Should You Buy?
Clipper and trimmer for a new or second station: the NOVAH set, our top pick.
A book full of fades: the Wahl Magic Clip for blending, and the Andis Master for close work at the bottom of a fade if you already own guards.
Up to 3 hours per charge, with a cord for backup: the BaBylissPRO SilverFX+.
Still leaning on guards: the Andis reVITE, with 12 combs in the box.
A backup in the drawer: the Andis enVISION.

How Do Barbers Keep Clippers Running All Day?
Brush hair out of the blade between every client and disinfect it the way your state board requires. Put 3 drops of clipper oil on the teeth, one at each corner and one in the middle, run it for a few seconds and wipe off the excess. Oil again every few cuts on a busy day, because a blade running dry heats up fast.
A hot blade is uncomfortable for the client and pulls hair. Rotating two clippers lets one cool while the other works, and a flat battery never stops a cut. Before blaming the motor for a clipper that seems to be losing power, clean, oil and check the alignment of the blade.

What clippers do professional barbers use?
The big guides' professional picks come from Wahl, Andis and BaBylissPRO: The Strategist names the Wahl Magic Clip best overall, Men's Health names the Andis Master its best professional clipper, and Wirecutter's upgrade pick is the BaBylissPRO SilverFX+. Keeping more than one clipper plus a trimmer at the station covers more jobs than one machine.
What is the best brand of professional hair clippers?
There is no single best brand. Wahl, Andis and BaBylissPRO each make clippers that the big guides rate highly. Choose by the job: a fading clipper, a close-cutting clipper for skin fades, a long-runtime cordless, and a trimmer for lineups.
Do professional barbers use cordless clippers?
Yes. Every professional clipper on this list runs on a battery. Cordless clippers are easier to move around the head and do not drag a cord across the client. Several run cord/cordless, so the machine keeps cutting if the battery runs low. Barbers who cut all day often keep a second clipper charged.
How many clippers does a barber need?
Two clippers and one trimmer is a practical setup: one clipper for bulk removal and blending, one set close for the bottom of fades, and a trimmer for lineups and necklines. A spare charged clipper means a dead battery never stops a cut.
